Investing in Built By DAO: Property, Capital and Participation
Understand how project investment, use of funds and earned participation fit together in Built By DAO’s flexible investment model.

Start with what the investment actually supports
When a real estate project uses a DAO or blockchain records, the first investor question is still concrete: what am I investing in, and how is that capital used?
Built By DAO connects capital to places and the capacity to build and operate them. The structure can vary with the property and context. Understanding that structure is more useful than treating every token, membership credential and project interest as the same thing.
This article focuses on investment structure. For the physical development sequence, see how BBD brings a building into use.
Separate the project from the participation record
A property-level investment may relate to a particular entity, asset and business plan. Participation in a wider network may serve a different purpose. A membership credential or contribution record is another distinct relationship.
Each should answer its own questions: who participates, what the instrument represents, which decisions it affects and which documents establish the terms. An investor can also contribute to BBD, but those roles need their own records and rules.
The investment structure guide illustrates these relationships. It is a starting point for discussing a specific opportunity, not a substitute for that opportunity's documents.
Follow capital into the operating plan
A clear use-of-funds discussion connects money to work. Depending on the project, that can include acquisition, rehabilitation, equipment, professional services and operating capacity.
The next question is timing. Which spending opens the first usable phase? Which commitments support later phases? What resources must be available when a building starts operating?
Our capital-at-work guide presents a planning example. Its figures describe that example and should not be read as the budget or terms of every BBD project.
Use the structure that fits the opportunity
BBD is open to discussing project-level investments and other structures suited to the property, participants and business plan. The investor conversation should establish the relevant entity, use of funds, decision rights, reporting and economic terms.
Qualified Opportunity Funds are one route worth examining when the investor and project circumstances fit. Our QOF guide explains the framework and timing considerations in detail. It does not make every BBD opportunity a QOF investment.
Keep earned participation distinct from capital
BBD's token model separates earned contribution and housing participation from the transferable utility-token workstream. Investor participation is also governed by its own structure. The dual-token documentation explains those distinctions.
This matters because a community can value different contributions without collapsing them into a single balance. Providing capital and completing useful work can both support a project while carrying different rights and responsibilities.
What to bring to an investor conversation
A productive introduction explains the kind of opportunity you want to discuss, your approximate timeline and whether you have a property or project in mind. It can also describe the role you hope to play: capital partner, property owner, operating partner or a combination.
BBD can use that context to discuss fit and the information needed for the next step. There is no need to choose an instrument based on a general article before that conversation.
